Nothing wrong with liking it then because you didn’t know. If you never have anything you cringe / regret / embarrassed about when you are younger you either have done nothing or learned nothing.

Ever article I see about lower fertility rate talks about how this will change the economic model. I always end up saying “good”. I get social security won’t work and that someone (us) will have to pay for it. But that’s true for so many things already where payments were deferred until now anyhow.
I feel like there’s more fear about this for billionaires and economists than regular people.
I have a request open for a few weeks. I have been anxiously waiting to get since then. I have plants ready to pick up that I need to have chips down first. I am even paying $20

In highschool a few friends of mine waited to get the final Harry Potter book when it was released. We all got a copy and then I think I finished it that night so I talked with one of my friends about it the next day at work. Great fun but a little embarrassing to admit now. Fuck J.K. Rowling

My first professional chemistry job had an older lab tech who used to always say when dealing with any acid.
“Do what you oughta, add acid to water”
It’s a fun saying especially because you need to mispronounce a few words to get it to rhyme correctly.

It does seem like that modem right is just incels and other misogynists who escaped their Internet containment to become a political force. Why any women votes for and Republican let alone become one is beyond me? Same with anyone who loves (or even likes) a women in their life. What a bunch of weirdos
I have done that with Eggplant the one time made it. I know that’s almost required with eggplants.
I usually salt my veggies a few minutes before I grill. But I should try the hour beforehand. I do it with meat (I sometimes do days with meat) so it should be easy to do with squash, zucchini, etc.

I have planted my vegetable garden. But that’s mostly for fun instead of for survival.
I have been doing some permaculture, foraging and native foods for fun. I think we should all know how to feed ourselves outside of big corporations. I have done lots of medicinal herbs over the last few years. I have been using them with my family and friends and it’s been delicious and fun. I keep finding new things I can use with things around my house.
My goal this year is going to be around drying foods. I had a fascinating learning / conversation with a native farmer from NATIFS about drying foods. Apparently you can basically dry everything with almost no supplies using sun and wind. So I want to practice with any excess fresh foods I have. I want to try to make my own dried soup mixes for the winter

Any suggestions to make sure to do with these veggies let me know

Kung-Pow is an absurdist camp masterpiece. It won’t be defamed and aged like fine milk into a blue cheese. Not for everyone but amazing for those who get it
Don’t sleep on grilling vegetables. They generally need just a little oil but some don’t even need that. I love doing a kebab with a variety of vegetables (mushrooms, peppers, zuccini, etc.) and sometimes steak. One of the best things to grill is corn on the cob. Just peel it and rub it in a little oil (olive is my favorite even though I eat it with butter) and put it straight on the grill. Wait until its looking juicy and its ready to eat. A little black or brown on a few kernels is great as well

If you have only heard the first verse you wouldn’t know how much of a powerful banger that song is. Woody Guthrie is great

The reason for the difference is from the Norman invasion when the nobility were French. So they referred to the food only not the animal in their own tongue.

For sure. It’s not a traditional brewing at all using brown sugar with herbs instead of malt. I’m happy to share some results

I’m sure it’s going to work great. Wild yeasts are everywhere.
I recommend that book because it’s all about brewing with things you forage using simple brewing methods. So you won’t find a recipe for a traditional “beer” but lots of things like lemon and mugwort “beer”. I got it this winter and can’t wait to try it out

If you are really interested in capturing wild yeast I would recommend reading Wild Crafting Brewer. There’s a ton of information on great wild yeast sources.
I don’t think oak leaves were a specific example but it’s everywhere. He recommend flowers, fruit and pinecones as great sources

It’s amazing. It’s separated by region from the arctic down to Mexico. Each section talks about the biome, the people who live there, a little history and culture followed by recipes. The recipes use only native ingredients but in an accessible way. I learned so much about foods that had a native origin that isn’t talked about. I especially loved the regions around Mexico because I never considered how foods there are unchained for centuries. Highly recommend it.
I rented it from the library so I read it in like 2 weeks. I might buy it just to have around

According to legend aving a theoretical physicist close enough can break any well designed equiment nearby. In the same way a good engineer can make the same equipment work by proximity only.

I just finished reading Turtle Island: Foods and Traditions of the Indigenous Peoples of North America. I read it cover to cover and I am unsure if I will ever make a recipe out of it. But man was it interesting, informative and captivating to learn about the native foods in North America. I can’t recommend it enough
I always describe it as cozifying the house. Making it cozy and livable
