1·6 days agoYeah it’s not going to be cheap, but I don’t really care? A cheap one would suck.
It’s not for everybody. Specifically I never recommend it.

114·6 days agoThere are plenty of full/long games now, and there are tools to effectively play a lot of pancake games in vr with full stereoscopic vision. GTAV in VR is hilarious.
It’s not the lack of games preventing VR adoption, it’s price, bulky tech, and inconsistent experience.

Canada@lemmy.ca•“Steel, concrete, and code”: Feds and Telus announce three AI data centres in BC | BetaKit
2·7 days agoAll jokes aside, nobody actually thinks chatbots will achieve sentience.
The most established engineers working on “AI” (I use this term because it’s a common term, not because I support the term in this context) believe a combination of models - especially world models - will be what eventually achieves some semblance of sentience.
Even Anthropic, the Claude people, don’t think LLMs will achieve sentience. They say they think LLMs are the path to machine sentience, which is a different thing.
But regardless, I believe von neumann architecture is insufficient to achieve sentience. I have no data to back up this belief.

1·7 days agoI think NIMBYism is ok in some situations. I don’t want an airport in my backyard, or a coal powerplant.
Personally I don’t care if there is a DC near me, but I fully support people’s right to not want it.

72·7 days agoFor people under 30 the wage gap is almost gone, and in several industries it has been inverted.
For the same position and education, young women now outearn young men.
However, if you take a global average across all ages, it’s very much alive.

Thanks for pointing that out. A lot of people some seem to realize automation was doing fine before LLMs.
The dark factories don’t need LLMs.
