Federal agents can no longer make arrests without exceptional circumstances in and around three Manhattan buildings where immigration proceedings occur, a judge ruled Monday.

The decision by U.S. District Judge P. Kevin Castel brings an abrupt halt to a practice begun under the Trump administration that enabled agents to take into custody individuals who follow requirements to appear before immigration judges.

The arrests have resulted in dramatic scenes in courthouse hallways as those being detained were sometimes pulled away from emotional family members.

The arrests have resulted in dramatic scenes

Who the eff cares about dramatic scenes, that’ll happen regardless of how you tear apart a family and ruin someone’s life

The important concern here is undermining the legal process by targeting people who are doing the right thing , causing fear of following the laws. This should never have been allowed and whoever decided it was the easy way to fulfill their quota ought to be deported

Well, yes, but normally the people in power aren’t forced to see those dramatic scenes, so they can safely ignore them.

No one they still do and judge will write a stern letter condemning them for breaking his order, but no one will ever be arrested for breaking it.
