The reply I’ve seen is that Canadian sovereignty is an attack on democracy.
House of Commons needs reform, sure. But I think Alberta wants DEI. Diversity in leaders (more western PMs), Equity (in MPs and power) and inclusion (of their viewpoints in decision making).
So they want to use a refendum as a form of democracy to supercede sovereignty claims.
The current push for Alberta separation is an American assisted op to destabilize Canada. The separatists lost their right to make such a claim the moment they started courting foreign support. They crossed the line from separation to sedition, in my opinion.
I agree with that. Especially for those who use separatism as a stepping stone to US statehood. But unfortunately we are not arresting them for sedition.
