Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•"Top Movies" in Amazon Prime is full of seriesEnglish
1·18 hours agoI haven’t used Amazon in such a long time but I figured they would have made it better with LLMs and stuff.
what’s funny is that I built that into my routine and I try to have conversations during family get-togethers
My parents seem to have broken that routine when smartphones came about will check their phone at the dinner table … my brother just has Reddit out all the time and scrolls if he feels the slightest bit bored. His kids are watching YouTube on the TV but they like talking … but he doesn’t feel the need to engage. His wife doesn’t seem to be all that engaged. Could be either due to him being on his phone all the time or doesn’t have much to say …

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a NON-HORROR NON-DOCUMENTARY movie that disturbed you or made you very uncomfortable?

If you’ve never seen Michael Hanake movies then it’s hard to describe. It’s not like horror like any of the others just getting us to confront things were uncomfortable with.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Europe to the world: ‘Canada is with us’ as it joins defence alliance in historic first
1·4 days agookay, to be fair … when the vote was coming up … I didn’t even know why we were voting about it. I looked up what remain and leave were about and I was like … well I don’t see advantage here to leave, so I voted to remain.
Then I came back to Canada to see my family. I told all my EU coworkers that this will never pass before I left. I then had to message them on Slack telling them I was so wrong …
I remember telling my SF coworkers that they better get out to vote because we joked about Brexit and Trump is running and you don’t want to make a similar mistake.

14·4 days agoI’m from the UK. I remember when it happened. I think so many people underestimated how stupid and lost people felt and decided that this was a good action to use.
Childhood friend of mine said something like, my dad had his own house, granddad had his own house … these immigrants come and live two families to a house … I don’t want that for my kid.
I was like, I get it … but this doesn’t solve the problem you’re looking for … he needed more Gary’s Economics than Nigel Farage.
An airline pilot? That’s crazy isn’t it? Don’t they do calculations based on the curvature of the Earth and stuff?
I got into it with the director of my UK office at work because he didn’t believe in global warming.
I thought all of them knew it was happening now and have pivoted to it not being man-made or what’s the point in doing anything.
I still don’t know what mogging (sp?) is and I’m not sure I want to …

2·6 days agoWelcome to the Fediverse! :D
I joke, but I’ve made the same mistake too.
I’m an 80s kid but I skipped the old Twilight episodes … so I’m trying to darnest to catch up on them and I’m learning how awesome the ideas were even if the presentation is dated.
Just a random segue …
I sound naive but I didn’t realize that Rod Sterling wanted to tell stories about social issues – racism and stuff but the networks wouldn’t let him. If he wanted to tell a story about an alien or an invader then the networks would let it pass through. So it was a way for him to tell harder stories to the general public.
I think that’s a lot of sci-fi like Invasion of the Body Snatcher and such but I just never thought about it deeply enough.
There’s the treehouse of horror episode by the Simpsons where Bart is omnipotent and I knew it was based on something but I only recently learned it from: “It’s a Good Life” which is a book and a Twilight Zone episode. I only watched the parody up until this year and I just thought it was a fun concept. Then I watched the original and a breakdown and it was a take on totalitarian regimes.

14·8 days agoNot saying you’re wrong, but like, there’s a lot of other categories of porn that I wonder why they exist and professional porn probably doesn’t crack the top 25.
I think in general most people have a more favourable view of her giving because she’s pledged to give away the bulk of her wealth during her lifetime and a lot of her pledges are unrestricted donations: https://yieldgiving.com/gifts?essay=20200728 … I don’t think she’s one of those that’s using her wealth to consolidate more wealth and make things worse for others.
Not to you, but I want to be clear about this before I get flamed. I’m not saying that is a replacement for a proper tax system or an equitable system in general. This should not exist at all. However, I do find that if you’re rich that you should be doing philanthropy.

I would love those but I have blinds and am all thumbs with DIY. I have a sleeping mask and it works pretty good.
I’ve seen a few of his more recent clips. He’s still playing games on livestream and giving out advice. Obviously with a much smaller audience.
I’ve never really followed him that closely to begin with. I would like to think he’s a good guy that has dumb opinions on certain topics. However, I also don’t care enough to dig into it deeper.
I curate my feed too. I also watch only one short or have to select it myself. I refuse to scroll shorts one after the other.
I think I’m miscommunicating it. You know how sometimes you feel as though you understand a topic until you have to explain it? :D
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5lqJF5BTvo (40minutes)
This video talks about it.
He talks about a Discord server where they pay people to do it. Not like editors or employees which are perfectly fine and make sense, but to hire other people to do it:
https://discord.com/invite/clipping
If you clip their stuff they’ll you via their campaigns through that Discord server. It’s to game the algorithm to make people think that other people are really interested in this to push them up the charts.
He brings up a good point in the video where he talks about how this should be considered advertising as opposed to natural content and labelled as such but laws around this are not clear.

oh thank goodness …
