And “Install updates and shut down” somehow involves restarting the computer three times, which is real fun when by default it boots Linux, so you have to babysit the computer just because Microsoft still haven’t figured out how to update their damn OS properly.

12·5 months agoThis is an event that takes privacy very seriously, where it’s not uncommon for speakers to present evidence of crimes, and where a large antifa-flag hangs over the entrance. I think they’ll be fine.
The other two on stage where journalists, and while I’m not familiar with German law, that likely limits the police’s ability to try to get to Root through them.
If reasonable precations were taken, there will not be any evidence directly tying the person on stage to the crime, and even if there was, them being in costume leaves a lot of room for reasonable doubt about who it actually was.

0·1 year agoIn the real world there is no entirely reasonable code base. There’s always going to be some aspects of it that are kind of shit, because you intended to do X but then had to change to doing Y, and you have not had time or sufficient reason to properly rewrite everything to reflect that.
We tend to underestimate how long things will take, precisely because when we imagine someone doing them we think of the ideal case, where everything is reasonable and goes well. Which is pretty much guaranteed to not be the case whenever you do anything complex.

If someone had put secret cameras in your bedroom, would you be completely cool with them selling the pictures online?
What if you were abused, let’s say threatened with a weapon and forced to undress in front of a camera, a traumatic experience for sure. Afterwards you learn that the film is being traded between people who get off on this stuff. Would that really not feel like a further violation?
Would you really be unaffected by the knowledge that for the rest of your life, at any time, there could be creeps getting off on your abuse?
What are some of the outstanding issues that haven’t been addressed? I feel like there are genuinely good ways of doing everything these days
They’ve done amazing work trying to turn the clusterfuck they started with into a good language

Then you’d have to start the computer again afterwards to switch it back. It’s a hassle either way.
I used to have GRUB pause at the selection screen. But it was annoying to need three interactions with pauses in-between (power on, OS select, login) before I could use the computer for the 95% of times I want Linux. Especially since memory training on DDR5 can take upwards of a minute.
