Oh, there’s going to be accountability all right, but for the wrong reasons. I predict that lawyer is getting his ass fired for telling the truth in Court and making the administration look bad. It may not happen right away, but it’s gonna happen.

Anyone who fails the “Peter Griffin in a Fez” test needs to get one. And double up on the card and book.
Because it doesn’t matter where you were born, or what the facts are. ICE is targeting people who they believe don’t belong here, based on how they look and sound. Having the card on your person is no guarantee, but maybe it will work if they are in a good mood.
It’s sad that this is what it has come to in America, of all places, but here we are.

I am a strong advocate that every state with a ICE invasion should dispatch their National Guard, 1:1 for each Federal agent in their state, with orders to simply observe and take body cam footage. Rent rooms in the hotel next door, track their cars with all their fancy surveillance equipment, track all the doors they knock down (and ask them for their warrants).
I think we will see a marked behavior shift in ICE if they realize that everything they do is being watched and recorded for posterity.

He needs to gather good evidence before getting indictments. See how some of the most egregious prosecutorial overreaches of the Trump administration have been sidelined by grand juries who don’t indict. That is one institution where the local processes haven’t been infected by Trumpism. Minnesota prosecutors need to play by the rules, because at least for the time being, the rules are on their side.

Then they’re idiots and the prize itself is worthless.
I don’t think we disagree on that point…

Because there were (and still are) real problems in Venezuela. She is a key figure in the opposition, and it’s widely suspected that the opposition party won the last election, but Maduro’s party fucked with the vote.
In a sane world that respects Democracy, it sends a statement that the popular will should be respected, and that the Maduro government was illegitimate. I don’t think the Nobel committee expected their award to precipitate armed intervention, which is the opposite of peace.
It’s even more ironic because it’s not like the will of the Venezuelan people is being honored, even now. Trump is ignoring Machado’s party (even after “accepting” that gift of the medal) and is extorting what is left of the government in Venezuela to funnel oil money into a secret bank account.
Basically, the award makes sense in a pre-Trump world, but he has changed all the rules. That last cheeseburger can’t come fast enough…

Donald Trump is going to use this as a loyalty test, though. Just like calling it the “Gulf of America”, or the “Department of War”. He’s going to start calling himself a “Nobel Prize Winner” and sic his brownshirts on anyone who disagrees.

Seems to me like the head of a global media conglomerate should be more aware of the messages he sends. If he were an employee, this would probably have gotten him fired. But ownership is the best job security, isn’t it?

The main advantage is that it’s a redundant form of citizenship ID. ICE can always say it is fake and confiscate it, but then you have your passport book waiting at home for your lawyer to take to the detention center to get you out (once they find out where they took you).

I mean, his ego did get extremely bruised…

Someone’s about to get fired…
… No, not the one who made the mistake in the first place. It’s the guy who is admitting fault and apologizing. We can’t have that in Trump’s America!

I’ll believe it when I see it. So far, Republicans’ vows to go against Trump seem to have the same sticking power as their vows to their ex-wives.

We’ve run over a thousand simulations
What does that even mean? How do you run simulations on something like that? It makes me think she just kept asking ChatGPT over and over …
No, that’s the difference between one ticket and more than one ticket.

It doesn’t surprise me, the Senate is filled with 100 people who think they are future Presidents
Your odds of winning the lotto with one ticket is infinitely better than winning with no tickets

I don’t know whether to laugh at Jeff for thinking that kissing the ring would make him safe, or to think that maybe Jeff ratted out his own employee for brownie points with the Administration.
You can’t tell me what to do
I’m on his side here. The problem is not necessarily that we have immigration laws, or that there is an agency tasked with enforcing them. It’s that this Administration has turned this particular agency into its own paramilitary wing, using immigration enforcement as an excuse to terrorize people who didn’t vote for Trump.
The mayor is making the point that in prior administrations, ICE existed, and was not a problem for him. They did their job, without terrorizing the city. The problem isn’t ICE existing, it’s what ICE has turned into under Trump and that nasty Caillou-looking Stephen Miller.
