Linux@programming.dev•Asciinema: making movies at the command-line
1·2 days agoOh damn I always assumed it was just video
TIL!
But to be honest, that was also pretty much before standardization. I have never seen anyone use Meta for the Alt key.
Wait there wasnt a Windows key since forever?
I never saw the Alt key referred to as anything else than Alt
On MacOS it is option or something

Linux@programming.dev•Budgie 11 Desktop Environment Will Be Ported to Qt 6, Development Kicks Off
4·2 days agoQT is built from the ground up to be used by anyone
Well, KDEs Qt fork (I think they have one). Qt is released proprietary and the older versions are open source. Which may make it pretty well funded but also always behind on updates.

31·2 days agojust a toolkit for GNOME.
Tbh after reading a recent blog post, I think this is not true at all.
Like theming can be shipped as part of the platform toolkit or something.

Linux@programming.dev•Flatpak program (FreeCAD) running itself as superuser?
1·7 days agoWell, but Flatpak also has the rule to not break anything by default.
And they call things like changing filesystem=host to the specific directories (home, run, mnt) “security theatre” and prefer waiting forever for legacy apps to magically fix it

Opensource@programming.dev•Google will now only release Android source code twice a year
5·7 days agoSo security updates are open source? Not like security preview releases that are under embargo?
Well that makes it less problematic. Android apps are independent from the core OS and half of the people is running old versions, so the ecosystem doesnt really depend on the latest and greatest.
Still shit, but less bad.
- Install F-Droid basic from f-droid.org
- Search for “f-droid known repositories” on the web
- Add the izzyondroid repo
- Reload repos
- Search for “money”
- Profit

Opensource@programming.dev•Google will now only release Android source code twice a year
10·7 days agoSo GrapheneOS and any other OS that cares a bit about security need to ship proprietary updates.
And if this is everything of 6 months, this is pretty insane
Many
KMyMoney, GNU Cash, many other independent ones

Linux@programming.dev•GNOME and Mozilla Discuss Proposal to Disable Middle Mouse Paste on Linux
33·8 days agoGood choice I think, way too sensitive to just work like that
Did you know that ShitDows doesnt support middle mouse button for anything? XD it opens the start menu like all the time
No opening in new tab or closing tabs

Yes, as libadwaita is just one platform theme of GTK4.
