I agree with you but I would still want numbers to go up a little bit, not down the way they are apparently.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Steam Machine price leak suggests it will cost as much as an iPhone
3·1 day ago800-900 is what they can ask for it I guess. If it’s more it’s gonna get slow sales, which could be okay as Valve doesn’t really need it the way Sony needs a Playstation to sell.
I don’t think I’ll buy it on release as my Steam Deck is good enough for me alongside my Playstation. I might buy it after its first price drop (if it doesn’t increase instead).

Open Source@lemmy.ml•how much do you donate to the apps you use?
5·2 days agoFor the free programs I use, I have a total of around 100$ to give every year. The more programs or projects I want to support, the less there is for each. Otherwise, I’d just become poorer and poorer.
For paid pograms and services, I’m also trying to not go for the cheapest but the ethically better ones.
I also have a 2 patreons to support creators who speak about FOSS.
I think you don’t have to give much, but you should always try to give something every year.
I don’t know anything about the specific computer you’re talking about, but usually the issues are with ARM.

Games@lemmy.world•AI-Induced RAM Crunch Could Push Next PlayStation and Xbox Past 2028English
4·9 days agoExactly! The good part of such a shortage is that old tech can stay relevant for far longer and devs will have to optimize more.
Sometimes, therés a lot of good in a bad situation.
I want great games, not necessarly more demanding ones. The Last of Us 2 is still the most beautiful game I’ve played and I don’t really need more if it means getting new hardware.

7·9 days agoI’d also love to have a normal PS5 partition and a Linux one. This would be the best of both worlds, but I think I’m dreaming too much😇
Yes but if the only extension that breaks is important in your workflow, you’re still left with a sour taste.
That’s why, despite needing more extensions, I’ve only iept 3-4 which never break.
I’m not sure I know enough to be able to take a side, but I really enjoy Gnome even if having more customization option would be a bonus.
If Cosmic brings this without having to rely on extension, then I’m all for it.
People are gonna tell me to just use KDE, but I’ve never had a great experience with it for the few hours I’ve spent on it in desktop mode on my Steam Deck.
I’d love such a feature on Linux, but I don’t think it’s happening anytime soon.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Sometimes I forget how awesome Linux Gaming isEnglish
3·14 days agoI’m happy to see that your experience was troublefree, but I wouldn’t want people to think that Linux is always smooth sailing as it clearly isn’t always the case.
To be honest, even if I love my Steam Deck and my other computers, nothing beats a Playstation when it comes to easy gaming.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Mass Effect Legendary Edition on Linux?English
5·14 days agoIt runs great on Steam Deck and, according to what I read, you just have a manipulation to do if you want to play offline. Although it wasn’t annoying enough for me to do it as I could just played using my phonés hotspot when not at home.
You should definitely play it if you get it for cheap.
Proton DB is great for such questions.

81·17 days agoOh yeah I fully agree that no game can satisfy everyone.
It’s just that, before playing it myself, I never heard a bad thing about it so I might have expected too much out of it.
Still I enjoyed it, even if it’s not a game I’ll recommend to everyone.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•How can I import GOG offline installers in Heroic while retaining the ability to get achievements?English
1·19 days agoI checked and both Heroic and Firefox are using MB/s so at least the indicated speeds are different. Leaving the Deck on would be really annoying as it would mean not playing any other game at the same time, but I’ll try downloading on another computer I can just leave turned on. I’ll see how much time I need to download just one game. Apparently Wolfenstein would take under 5.5 hour according to Heroic…
I just think it’s annoying that if you turn off your computer the download resumes from 0% on Heroic…
Well for arm it might come but since you can’t really upgrade these new Macs, they are less interesting in a way…

Organic Maps works well enough for me. Even for car travelling through Apple Car Play it’s reliable enough. I don’t know if there are better alternatives, but I can vouch for this one.
I only miss satellite pictures to facilitate my navigation as the map can be a bit too abstract…
