“Chevron is applying for a tax abatement for the project under Texas’ Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation (JETI) Act.”

    Ha. Texas has nerds too.

Without sounding all Mount Darnay, where are the tax breaks for the workers and the poorest in community who do all the work?

Yeah it’s weird. Texas has massive amounts of both wind and solar. I guess the state’s self-image means that they have to use fossil fuels? Sort of like everyone in Texas needs a truck even if they just drive to work and supermarkets?

It does give some perspective. Is this data center so important that we need to emit as much pollution as a country with a population of 3 million people?

Valid that using as much as a small country is concerning either way…there are just magnitudes of difference. Uraguay and Jamaica have similar population sizes.

*Uruguay has a significantly higher per capita electricity consumption than Jamaica, using roughly 2.3 times more electricity per person. As of recent data, Uruguay’s consumption is approximately 2,388 kWh per capita, while Jamaica’s is 1,046 kWh. Since most CO2 generation is from Tue power grid.
