World News@lemmy.world•Scientists detect a sharp acceleration in global warmingEnglish
3·8 days agoApologies I should have linked a source in that claim. I only had a rough understanding of it and had read an article on phys.org that mentioned that previously. Arguably still a big concern since we could not be seeing the actual warming done in present day 2026 for another decade or more.

727·9 days agoThe thing that doesn’t get called out enough is that many greenhouse gasses have a lag time before they actually start causing heat. CO2 for example takes about 20 years if I recall correctly. So we are seeing the results of what was emitted years ago… not necessarily the current emissions.
For more fun IPv6 knowledge, Hurricane Electric provides a certification course! You also get a t-shirt when you finish it.
You could interpret it that way, sure. There are so many IPv6 addresses you really don’t have to subnet anything like you did in IPv4. The typically “mask” you will see is a /64.
Happy belatedbirthday, @CaffeineTwo@piefed.world !
25-30 were some of my favorite years. I wish you success, health, and great memories to come.
Can confirm, I made that face the other day.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Selfhosting as a Linux newbie - Ubuntu Server LTS or Debian 13?English
2·14 days agoBoth are viable. Ubuntu is based on Debian. It may come with some additional bloat. Really it comes down to what you feel comfortable with. Neither will be a bad choice.

24·14 days agoMy dog has PTSD, or as I call it poop and toots stress disorder. Will get up and walk out of the room looking dejected when anyone farts. If someone is on the toilet, she is scared for her life
I found the channel ADV China some time ago and as a Westerner it felt very approachable. Two guys riding bikes around China, explaining and exploring things. I didn’t get the anti-PRC vibe, but maybe I completely missed it - whoosh over my head.
Can you recommend any other series that might be worth watching?

I’m an AMD fan so I haven’t ran into that issue. I could see how that is a problem though.
First: Gnome Favorite: Gnome Longest Used: Gnome Least Favorite: KDE Current: Gnome Future: Gnome
Used Cinnamon, KDE, XFCE in the past. Bucking the trend, I think Gnome is fine and does what I need it to do. You do you, though. That’s what is great about Linux.
Pinky and ring finger on my right, pinky, ring finger, and middle on my left.
Would suck, but I’m right handed and could still “grip” things ok.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•people who take zoom calls in coffee shops are insufferableEnglish
5·1 month agoDid this once with a team meeting. There was a guy who showed up 3 minutes into my call and was playing the guitar. I muted myself but when they asked me a question I had to quickly unmute and answer, then mute. My coworker was like “where the fuck are you?”
Yeah I am not sure about Tactics but every other game gives you that option
