Come on why use ‘money’ when ‘deposit’ is right there.

Nothing.
I live in a fairly small town, in NZ. I start work at 06:30, so quite early. My commute is only around 8 minutes.
One day this year, I saw no people are all, or cars moving, it was really disconcerting.
Usually is see a bunch of cars driving around, a few people out walking their dogs, morning runners etc…
It felt like a scene out of a movie. Truly a strange experience,

I think the hotel should have gotten a much larger fine. As they were the ones doing the organising… But all involved are stupid, keeping it going after a warning, unbelievable.

The hotel charged the punters, and got a small fine of $22k.
The helicopter company is the one that has to forfeit the helicopters.
It seems too me, the main issue here is the continued offending after they were warned to stop… That is just idiocy of the highest order.

OK so you have never seen a cow poo before.
The “material” comes out in a high pressure jet. It is a kinda thick paste, it will splash because cows are quite tall.
The splash from their own stream may contaminate the udders, but they will often get splashed or just shat on from another cow.
It’s perception, not objective reality.
I’m also biased, I know a lot about NZ that should put is lower on the list, but then I assume there is a bunch I don’t know about other countries, maybe that evens it out.
I’m not sure who I would put at the top, but bottom would be pretty close to what is on this list
I’m sure it will lead to some perverse incentives.
This is actually a terrible idea, the psychological implications of linking sexual pleasure to negative emotions is a great way to ruin people.
Better idea.

Indeed.
Going further south, to Red Rocks or even to Island Bay, makes the cape 14 hrs away. Basically the longest trip on “nice” roads in the North Island. Could make it 14 1/2 hrs if you take it to Cape Palliser; but that is basically the limit in NZ.
I’ll say it again, FFS Oz is huge.

This is awesome; first non-google phone supported. It us a bit on the expensive side for me, but a good step in the right direction.
Hopefully they will be able to get Motorola/Qualcomm to have the required security features on a lower end SoC and hence phone.

I drove with a friend 13 hours across Oz to the coast; looked at map was a tiny little bit of the bottom part…FFS Oz is huge.
Drive 13hrs in NZ and you would go from Wellington to somewhere in Northland; or the whole length of the South Island.
Dip cheese sticks in it.

I voted, and did the confirmation as soon as it came in. So not sure what happened.

I kept getting emails that my vote didn’t count; because I didn’t do the confirmation via email, but I did. So I’m not sure if my vote was counted.

Lag…you don’t know lad till you tried playing Quake online from New Zealand (that place that is often left off maps)…in the late 90’s.
I scoff at your 200ms ping, try 4500ms (on a good day); that is right, you spot turn and shoot. Three and a half seconds later you die; because you shot at empty space and someone saw you.

I have one, I got it to replace my broken pebble. It felt very limited in comparison.
I have since upgraded to a new pebble time 2. Fully open source now, not sure about telemetry, but since it is FOSS it is able to be modified.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory; then punching yourself forcefully in the face.
Best use of nickelback possible?
I agree with you.
But you cannot ignore that there is a huge part of the demographic; which, live in an information bubble and are low on the critical thinking skills to evaluate this bubble. They tend to be easily led to vote any which way those that control the bubble want.
This is a serious problem that required serious thought on how to solve it; and critically, the solutions are not coming from within the bubble, as those within the bubble have been led to believe the problem is those outside the bubble.
Thus in some way we have to impose the fix from the outside. My usual call is for education and regulation of the flows of information to be factual. Any more force than this generates a significant counter narrative; strengthening the feeling of “us vs them” and working against the very thing we are trying to achieve.
Beyond vague notions of improving education; and legislating factual news reporting, with harsh punishments for lying/significant bias. I don’t have a fleshed out plan; just the skeleton of an idea.
