The dating app kinda reminds me of gambling. Gambling is selling the hope of being rich. Dating apps are selling the hope of finding a partner.

4·12 days agoI do write stuff down. In my password manager so it’s always with me all the time and is much more difficult to gain access to than if I were carrying around a notepad. Also, I ain’t got pockets for that, and I’m not buying a wardrobe of cargo pants.
I don’t like it on desktop but goddamn, it sucks even more on mobile. I was swiping to scroll through the stupid horizontal menu and then when I got to the bottom of it, turns out I was scrolling so fast I basically teleported to the bottom of the page.

11·14 days agoAs always, I want to note that seafile is not compatible with existing files, you can’t just point it at a directory, you have to upload them to seafile, and then you can only access them via seafile (at least that’s how I understand it, correct me if I’m way off base).

News@lemmy.world•Google Maps will show ‘Lake America’ in U.S., not ‘Lake Ontario’
3·15 days agoCheck out CoMaps. It relies on OpenStreetMap, which also has the correct name. Main downsides are a lack of business info, so it’s more difficult/impossible to find somewhere to eat, and no traffic data.
The best feature is that it’s completely offline, you download everything to your device as you desire. No stupid squares to select and download like in Google Maps. I have the entire US on my phone, and don’t need internet to navigate using that data.

1·22 days agoIf 463 pages sold, why does your website say 0/1000 claimed? Are you lying or did you use an LLM to create a broken website?

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•I built a tiny self-hosted corner of the internet made entirely from HTML pagesEnglish
1·22 days agoI seriously do not understand this.
- OP claims it’s just for fun, yet it isn’t, as it’s for money.
- OP says they’ve made hundreds of bucks on this, yet zero of the thousand pages are claimed.
- OP says it’d be “interesting … to give people a tiny piece of a website” yet they aren’t giving away anything, it’s costs money.
- “What if every person got their own HTML” but limits it to 1000 so every person cannot get their own HTML.
- OP posts in the self hosting community, yet they aren’t even self hosting the website and, if I paid $1, I wouldn’t be self hosting my HTML page.
I feel like if OP were just honest about this they’d have better luck. Not good luck, but better luck.

Technology@lemmy.world•Do Amber Alerts for Missing Kids Actually Work? | The WalrusEnglish
45·26 days agoMy main issue with Amber Alerts is that they’re not mutable. If my phone is screaming at me, I’m going to hit mute before reading what’s on the phone. When I hit mute, the alert is gone. It’s simply nowhere to be found. I can’t read it in my notifications panel. It’s gone.
It needs to show up as both an alert AND a notification. It’s crazy that this isn’t standard (in android, at least).

3·28 days agoA 40Kwh battery is like 10 grand, I’m not sure why you brought that up. I’d be more likely to invest in a second battery and solar panel. It’s been up for over 23 weeks right now, I’d guess a second solar panel and battery could keeping it up nearly 100% of the time, and it’d cost under $100 for a 200wh battery and 30w panel.
