Exactly. They were never able to provide any examples of anyone who actually thought it was a threat. That was just the pretext they used to arrest and punish him extrajudicially. I’m sure it was just a coincidence that the wife of the chief of police was the one organizing the local vigil for Kirk.
The charges they arrested this guy for were patently absurd to anyone who spent more than 5 seconds looking into it. In a Facebook discussion about Kirk’s assasination, he posted a quote from Trump about the Perry, Iowa school shooting, where Trump had said “We have to get over it”. They tried to charge him with making a terrorist threat against the local high school (Perry County, TN).
Fines? Under this administration? Good one, LOL.

The voting record is pretty stark.The Wyoming and West Virginia counties where coal is the main source of employment voted over 90% for Trump in the 2024 election. In Pennsylvania it’s closer to 70-80% in those counties, but still pretty overwhelmingly in support of Trump. Those three states are responsible for the bulk of coal production in the US.
No group is entirely homogeneous, but there aren’t a lot of groups that are so unilateral.

Double jeopardy applies to trials and convictions, not detainments. This just falls under straight harassment.
To a degree, parents have the right to reject medical treatment for a child. There must be an immediate threat to the child’s life or health to ignore their refusal. A preventative vitamin shot is not such a case. Superseding the parents’ wishes here would require a court order.
Absolutely. I work from home so I used to run them for convenience, but kept notifications turned off. It was nice to be able to occasionally join a meeting from my phone. But if there’s an actual emergency (very rarely happens) they can call me.
Not a ban, as such, but our IT has been tightening security and is now requiring us to install a device management app on our personal phones if we want to be able to run Outlook or Teams on them. I told them that’s fine, I just won’t run the apps, which means it’s a lot harder for people to get ahold of me outside normal working hours. It’s pretty great, actually!

You’re kidding yourself if you think companies being online was ever about anything other than potential profit. At first it was just a way to reach a wider pool of customers. Like the yellow pages before. Then, once every company had an online presence, they started looking for new ways to monetize the connectivity.

Ah, beat me to it. Yeah, the Spanish Flu, one of the most deadly pandemics in human history, was initially spread through US military bases. It’s literally one of the reasons why we make sure soldiers are vaccinated.
Reminds me of Steak-umm. Ground up meat trimmings formed into a loaf that is sliced thin before cooking. Frequently used in place of higher quality cuts in cheese-steak sandwiches. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it presented in such a depressing manner, though.
Ah… right. Because this only applies to the states that didn’t agree to the settlement. Welp. That is pretty disappointing. I would have hoped it would hit them a little harder. I don’t really care about what I’m going to get out of it (though I am in one of the states that didn’t settle), so much as the degree to which it hurts Live Nation.
I’m well aware that all of that is necessary to make the removal permanent. My point was that in order to get things moving, all it takes is a simple majority vote of a small number of people, which is much easier to accomplish than even getting a vote on articles of impeachment in the House. Which then, at best, kicks off a months-long process that might lead to removal, but would much more likely go nowhere. If they could show that even his cabinet has lost faith, it might even be much easier to convince congress that making the removal permanent is in their best interests, and it doesn’t even require a lengthy trial.
Well… based on a (conservative) sales figure of 500M tickets sold per year over the last 5 years, that’s a penaly of ~$4.3B in restitution. That doesn’t include potential punitive damages.
So some politicians can say they’re “tough on crime” when they run for re-election.
